Muse Architects Welcomes Fall 2019 Intern

We are pleased to welcome Maddie Warlick, a senior at Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School, as our intern for the fall semester of 2019. While she is here, Maddie will learn the basics of architectural drawing, software, and modeling.

Maddie is currently working on designs to integrate standing desks into the office here at Muse Architects, a project that involves measuring and creating a virtual model of the office space. She is also learning the tools and functions of traditional architectural drawing. After she graduates, Maddie is planning to study architecture and interior design at the University of Kentucky.

Muse Architects has been educating Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School students in the field of architecture for over ten years. Limy Rocha, who participated in the program as a high school senior in 2012, continued to intern during winter and summer breaks while she pursued her Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Maryland. After earning her degree, she became a full-time member of the staff at Muse Architects.

“…my internship experience was focused about learning what is good design… a design logic that had a clear and sustainable approach for both the architect and the user of the space was always instilled in all the projects.”

Our internship program has adapted over the years as new technology has become available, but our interns still learn the value of traditional architectural drawing. Limy states about her time as an intern:

“…Muse Architects made an emphasis on the importance of clarity through authorship by working through hand-drafting, sketching, and lettering–skills that are currently overlooked in the profession due to digital turns over the past decades… Technology was viewed as a tool or instrument, but not as a driving force of design.”

Currently, Limy is pursuing her Master of Architecture degree at Yale School of Architecture, and she will graduate in 2020. We look forward to seeing the work that Limy, Maddie, and all of our past and future interns will create.
